9/5, Saturday, 3pm-8pm, WFC Battle on the Bay
Cal State Hayward, Main Gym, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd, Hayward

Battle on the Bay benefits the Royal Family Kid’s Camps – food, vendors.  There is a Muay Thai event prior to the main event.  Front row VIP is $60, VIP $45, general admission $30.

Note: Admission is $5 day-of-event.


9/6, Sunday (first Sunday of every month), Godo Keiko

Note: $3 per kenshi.  Beginners welcome!  Event for Northern California Kendo Federation members.

All federation members (those wearing bogu) and do not need individual instruction to get through a basic practice regime are welcome.  This is an opportunity for intermediate kenshi, advanced kenshi and instructors to practice with each and advance their training.


9/11-13, 18th Annual Big Sur Weapons Retreat

May choose between a 1-day plan, 2-day plan, partial plan (2 days, 1 night), or full plan (3 days, 2 nights).  Camping, training, and fun.  Martial arts and out of doors related fun: Of interest to martial artists of all levels, this is an opportunity to study basic and advanced jo and bokken.  Other activities may include swimming in the 75-foot swimming pool, chi gong, tennis, and volleyball.  The facilities at Douglas Ranch also include large, rustic lodge with 3 dining rooms each with fireplace, bathroom facilities with hot showers, hiking trails, tennis counts, and archery range.  All meals will be provided.  The meals will be simple vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare.  Sleeping will be on provided cots in rustic, wooden cabins, accommodating 2-4 campers each.  Families are welcome.  Children are the responsibility of the parents.

Note: Spectator fee of $5.  A portion of the proceeds go to Second Harvest Food Bank.

8 blocks surrounding San Jose’s Japantown – 5th Street and Jackson Street

Demonstrations of Shotokan karate, kendo, aikido, and more.  Details to be announced.
